~ blogging my fangirl-ness

I can read hangul, understand basic phrase, can catch up easy and common dialogue, and obviously: can use online dictionary, lol. That’s it. People say it’s learning by doing, so here I am… Feel free to correct my translation work. This is my own practice ground, so take everything with huge grain of salt. Lol. Thanks~

[NEWS/TRANS] “Running Man” Crisis, Should Not Invite Monotonous Guests Again

Source:  Isplus

“Running Man” hit crisis.

Sunday variety show SBS “Good Sunday – Running Man” rating descended. According to AGB Nielsen, “Running Man” broadcast in August 26th recorded a 15.8% rating nationwide. The rating fell 2.8% from previous episode which recorded a rating of 18.6% nationwide. Meanwhile, KBS2 “Happy Sunday — 1N2D” recorded a rating of 19.6% nationwide in the same time, widening the gap between two shows from 0.1% to 3.8%.

“Running Man” have been maintaining its three years longevity, and from its low rating days, “Running Man” members’ unique antics which resulted in solid character is their biggest virtue. They have been implementing drama concept and changing the guests weekly to keep the show dynamic, with nametag tearing and opponent chasing as their default format.

The guests casting is the one who responsible for “Running Man” defeat to “1N2D”. In the recent episode, “1N2D” invited the members’ friends. “1N2D” members got “Ask Your Friends to Pick You Up” as their morning mission. Kim Namjoo, Shinji, Baekga, and Hong Kyungmin made appearances (as their friends), while Sung Sikyung called his non-celebrity friend instead of inviting a celebrity. “1N2D” members’ strong bonds (with their friends) is really touching since they still made appearance despite the sudden invitation.

On the other hand, “Running Man” guest seems to head in different direction. “Running Man” is exciting with its way of turning its character into somewhat cheesy and childish, starring high-profile guests in clumsy RPG-like world. Stars who aren’t usually appeared in variety shows come to “Running Man” and they’re mostly newcomers (in variety shows).

The problems with “Running Man” as it entered its third year is that it already had its interesting specific formula. Dependence on the guests for rating was also developed. Kim Soohyun’s appearance in “Running Man” is supposed to be an advantage and an extraordinary (rating) turnover, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

On the other hand, the public relation team still boasted Park Taehwan’s guest appearance in “Running Man”.

  • I really hope someone who is more capable in Korean can translate this. -_-
  • I love Gong Hyojin in dramas, and she has quiet good attitude in variety shows, but I have to admit her appearance here is nothing remarkable. It’s true that I prefer guests with good variety skills and relationship with casts instead of those high-profile guests with very minimum experience. However, I disagree with the author’s opinion as I think this is more of PD/writer’s fault. If they made these guests blend more with the casts without stealing massive amount of airtime awkwardly (example of good high-profile guest: Chun Junmyung in episode 92), I think they’ll impress us viewers more.
  • Again the usual sticky notes: I got help from online dictionary and translator to do this and I add/remove/edit few words and such to make the sentences more comprehensible. Feel free to correct my translation and/or grammatical mistake.
